Sunday Snapshot {Prelude to becoming a Nurse}

Ni Hao Y'all

Faith is majoring in nursing.
She finished up all her pre-requisites last semester....
She is on the 'waiting list' for the Nursing program.....
She will have to 'wait' until January 2011 before she can get in to the program....darn!

So what's a girl to do??????

How about a job working as a CNA????? (Certified Nursing Assistant)

She works at an assisted living center.
She works the early, early morning shift.....Did I say early????
She works part-time....about three days a week.
(She still works at American Eagle...can't give up the perks of that job...40% discount, baby!!!!)

She is learning a lot.....
compassion
patience
understanding.

She is making dear friends with the residents.....
They miss her on her days off...
They share stories of their lives with her...
They tell her jokes....
They give her advice!!!

This 'job' she has is probably more of a 'ministry'....
I know the Lord is using this opportunity to shape her, grow her, mold her....
I know this experience is preparing her to be the kind of nurse that God wants her to be....someday.

I don't think just anyone can be a CNA....
I takes a special person to lovingly & cheerfully serve the residents their food.....to help them bathe....to help them get dressed....to administer their meds.....to listen to them.

I am proud of my girl!!!!!

  1. You have every reason to be proud. I'm sure the residents love her youth and beauty! A ray of sunshine to them.

When I was 15, I got my first job at a local nursing home. I started in the kitchen. As the years went by, I did more and more jobs there. I got to know the residents and loved them. They had to much to share still. I worked there all through jr high and high school and summers during college. Loved it!

Good luck to Faith on her journey to become a nurse.

  3. Congratulations Faith on your first step to becoming a nurse! The things you'll learn as a CNA will help to prepare you for your formal training. Learning the lingo, how to have patience with your patients (& other staff), time management, the list goes on and on. But most importantly you'll see firsthand how serving those in need is being the hands and feet of Christ. :) I love it when God calls new nurses into the profession. Please let me know if there's any nursing wisdom I can send your way!
    God's blessings,
    Sarah :D

  11. What a wonderful calling, Faith! Many years ago I traveled that same path. I loved nursing, but even though now I'm a stay at home mom, many of the aspects of nursing carry over. Working as an aide will help you decide if nursing is your perfect fit, too.
    Blessings

  12. It takes a very special person to be a CNA. I have a cousin who spent about 10 years as a CNA and she did love it, but didn't want to go into nursing and wanted more money, so she left that job to work at a factory where she makes WAY more money. If only CNA's were paid better she'd still be working at the nursing home.
